Carding Mill sign to be dedicated

Carding Mill sign

The Waterford Historical Society and the Friends of City Brook will hold a dedication at 2 p.m. May 27 near Werner Park for a commemorative sign for the Hapgood/Hamlin carding mill that was located along the brook. The wool carding mill was moved to Old Sturbridge Village in the early 1960s and opened in 1963 in working condition. Arthur Sanderson, son-in-law of W.K. Hamlin, placed the original commemorative sign at the site of the mill. This is the first in what the WHS hopes will be a series of interpretive stories about the mills of Waterford. The Stanwood Bucket Factory will be featured in a meeting on Oct. 12 att the Wilkins Community House.
